INTRODUCTION: THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT KOZHIKODE (IIMK)
The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode), established in 1996, stands as one of India's premier
business schools and is the fifth IIM to be set up under the IIM network. Founded through a collaborative effort between
the Government of India and the State Government of Kerala, IIM Kozhikode has rapidly grown into a distinguished
institution of management education, research, and innovation. Nestled on two hillocks in the scenic Kunnamangalam
area of Calicut, Kerala, the 112.5-acre campus offers a picturesque environment that fosters learning and development.
From its modest beginnings with just 42 students in its flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in 1997, IIM Kozhikode
has expanded its student base significantly, with over 1,200 students graduating in 2024. The institution is known not just
for its growth in numbers but for its continuous efforts in bringing forth innovative educational practices and programmes.
These include the PGP in Liberal Studies and Management, a unique offering that blends management education with
humanities, the PGP in Finance, and the PGP in Business Leadership. IIMK also offers a rigorous Doctoral Programme
(PhD), both full-time and for working executives, ensuring its relevance to both academia and industry.
Beyond its regular MBA programmes, IIM Kozhikode has made significant strides in executive education. Its Executive
Post Graduate Programmes (EPGP), conducted both at its main campus and its satellite Kochi campus, provide working
professionals with opportunities to enhance their skills through interactive learning modes. The institution's Management
Development Programmes (MDPs) have had a remarkable impact, benefiting over 41,000 participants from more than
150 organizations, including several Fortune 500 companies. What sets IIM Kozhikode apart from other management
institutions is its vision of “Globalizing Indian Thought.” The institute is committed to nurturing globally conscious
leaders who integrate authenticity, sustainability, and fulfillment into their practice. In line with this mission, IIMK's
Vision 2047 outlines a roadmap to make a lasting impact on global management education while contributing to Indian
society's intellectual and ethical growth. IIM Kozhikode’s global standing is further reinforced by its international
accreditations. In 2010, it became the first IIM to receive the prestigious AMBA accreditation, which it has consistently
renewed, and in 2021, it was awarded the EQUIS accreditation, a testament to its international excellence in management
education. The institute is also an educational member of AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business) and is working towards securing the highly coveted Triple Crown Accreditation.
Ranked 3rd among all management institutes in India according to the NIRF 2024 rankings, IIM Kozhikode has also
gained recognition globally. It debuted in the QS World University Rankings for its Executive MBA in 2020 and
continues to perform strongly in various international rankings, including the Financial Times (FT) Rankings, where its
Post Graduate Programme made an impressive leap to 68th position in 2024. IIM Kozhikode’s commitment to social
inclusivity is evident through its initiatives aimed at fostering gender diversity and supporting marginalized communities.
It was the first IIM to achieve a 54% representation of women in its PGP programme and has continuously focused on
affirmative action for SC/ST candidates.
